Bartres, Bruges and Lourdes, also, a place of pilgrimage

Our one-day excursion, we will visit the beautiful village of Bartres is where Bernadette Soubirous spent some of her early childhood. At the top of the house in the distance, you can just spot the church where St. Bernadette spent many happy hours praying and meditating to St. John the Baptist. 

Bartres is a beautiful little town you can see sheep and wildlife all around, and the cafe offers home-cooked food where there's a variety of homemade ice-cream on offer. The church as a place of worship is quiet and idyllic and it can be very cooling on days with high temperatures.

Our usual visit to the precious blood of Jesus Christ takes us around the fair city of Bruges. Here we are again in Bruges Belgium, with a group of wonderful people having a fabulous time. Known as “The Venice of the North," Bruges is Belgium’s most visited town.  Situated on a network of waterways, Bruges is the perfect place to cruise on a canal, visit one of the many “Chocolatiers”, and indulge in the infamous Belgian chocolates. Whatever you prefer, the charm and festive ambiance of this wonderful city is sure to work its magic! 

THE NOBLE BROTHERHOOD OF THE HOLY-BLOOD

"The Noble Brotherhood of the Holy-Blood was founded shortly after 1400". Its purpose is to safeguard the relic and to further its veneration. Its 31 members must be resident in Bruges and, as an old document puts it, be “honorable people”. "The Provost can be recognized by his rich neckchain. On ceremonial occasions, the Brothers wear a black silken tabard on which the pelican with her young is embroidered. For about 750 years the population of Bruges and its neighbourhood faithfully and intensively venerates the relic of the Holy Blood."

  "Lourdes, France is the site of an apparition of the Virgin Mary to Bernadette Soubirous in 1858. It is now the most visited Christian pilgrimage shrine.

Lourdes is a small market town lying in the foothills of the Pyrenees. It is part of the Hautes-Pyrénées department in the Occitanie region in south-western France. Prior to the mid-19th century, the town was best known for the Château fort de Lourdes, a fortified castle that rises up from a rocky escarpment at its center". We pray and honour Our Lady daily in towns and cities all over the world, we look to her with our special intentions for our life.   

Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception feast day is 11 February.
